On October 17 2019, Veronika Wilk (AIT) has participated in Session 3B "Decarbonizing Industry (Industrial processes - manufacturing, chemicals, plastics, agriculture - represent major challenges and opportunities. What technology breakthroughs are needed in this critical sector?)" of the "Electrification Europe 2019" International Summit. There she has given a presentation on "Industrial heat pumps" highlighting DryFiciency as an innovative H2020 research project in this field extending the operating range from 100°C to 160°C.
Wilk talk focussed on industrial heat pumps and their status of development, impact on CO2 emissions and energy costs. Besides she shown several best practise examples of industrial heat pumps already in operation in the food, metal and energy industry collected within the framework of the IEA HPT Annex 48 "Industry Heat Pump".
The event hosted by the US-based Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and EDF (Electricié de France) was organised as an high-level event to address the topic of how efficient electrification can transform the global energy landscape while helping to achieve international climate reduction targets. The participants mainly comprised of high level decision makers from utilities, policy makersregulatory bodies, and manufacturers. The participants showed interest in the industrial heat pump technologies, especially in terms of amortisation times and market maturity.
